Teachout of UMGC's MAT
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is being discontinued as of the 2025-2026 catalog year. All students who are already in the program will be able to finish, but we will not longer be admitting any new cohorts.
While the program is in teachout, current candidates can be assured nothing will change. The program will maintain all state-approvals, accreditation, partnerships. The eventual discontinuation of the program in 2028 will not impact your program or licensure eligibility - now or in the future.
Current students do, however, need to be sure that they complete their remaining coursework before each class is offered for the final time. Please be aware of the teachout schedule below.
EDTP 600 - offered for the last time in Spring 2025
EDTP 635 - offered for the last time in Spring 2026
EDTP 639 - offered for the last time in Fall 2026
EDTP 645 - offered for the last time in Spring 2027
EDTP 650/internship - offered for the last time in Spring 2028
We strongly encourage all candidates to work towards planning for an internship by Fall 2027, as this then allows one final semester (Spring 2028) in case anything happens and you're unable to complete in fall.
An Excel document with the teachout schedule is also included below to aid in course planning.
Any questions about the teachout can be directed to Kristin Kubik, Director of Student Support, at kristin.kubik@umgc.edu
