Accelerated Reading Requirements
2021 - 2022
Accelerated Reader (AR) will be used in our classroom for part of each student’s grade. Students will not be allowed to read any book lower than 4.0 (unless approved by a teacher). A total of 10 points is required for the first nine weeks, 12 points for the second nine weeks, 14 points for the third nine weeks, and 12 points for the fourth nine weeks. Students will also need to read at least 2 non-fiction books during each nine-week period.
Students will receive 2 grades for AR (comprehension, and AR Points). All tests taken by a student affect his/her comprehension percentage, and the AR tests will be calculated into their overall reading grade. Please help me stress the importance of being prepared for these tests after a book is complete. Keep in mind that if a student does not complete the NF portion of their AR requirement, ten points will be deducted for each nonfiction book that is not read and will affect their AR point grade.
Please note that only tests of 80% or higher will count towards a student’s point goal.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE AT LEAST HALF OF THEIR AR POINTS BY MIDTERM OF EACH NINE WEEKS. IF THEY DO NOT, THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO TO RECESS UNTIL THEY MEET THE NUMBER OF POINTS REQUIRED BASED ON THE WEEK.
