The purpose of the K-12 District Assessment System is to ensure equity of opportunity for students by demonstrating alignment of district assessments to the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards in all ten content areas. The DAS should be designed and implemented so that inferences pertaining to equity of educational opportunity are supported by outcomes as measured by the assessment system.
In Campbell County School District #1 (CCSD), we are committed to using a variety of assessment tools to gather evidence of growth and learning. Assessment helps us to know our students and make quality inferences about the learning to guide our instruction. Our desire is for our students to become critical thinkers, global citizens, and leaders of their own learning. Assessment provides a venue for students to reflect on their growth with consistent, quality feedback.
CCSD's District Assessment System (DAS) is housed in the district's viable and aligned curriculum for all ten content areas along with appeasing state statutory guidelines. CCSD's assessment system ensures that all students have equity of opportunity to learn the content standards in all ten of the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards.
Campbell County's foundational approach to deploying the DAS is predicated on the use of informal and formal assessments in the classroom, which serve as a barometer of how a whole class might be performing regarding a skill set within a learning progression or accurately inform teachers on a student's performance on a specific standard or topic.
Campbell County School District #1's District Assessment System contains the following assessment components to support the classroom learning system:
Classroom Assessments: These are generated by teachers which align to the bundled and prioritized standards identified in the district's learning continuum, which are generally housed in teacher crafted units of study. These assessments are formative in nature and are key to an informative instructional cycle. They could be pre and post tests, performance assessments, quizzes, and informal checks for understanding.
School Assessments: These are assessments that a school may require and have a grade level or content area feel to them. These could be end-of-course assessments, final exams, common assessments, grade specific assessments and/or unit tests.
District Assessments: Generally these are interim or summative assessment in nature and may include common assessments, end-of-course, and end-of-unit assessments. District Student Performance Assessments (DSPAs)/Common Interim Assessments (CIAs) fall within this category.
State Required Assessments: These are required by the state and are generally used for program and/or school evaluation. These are the WY-TOPP and ACT assessments.
