The ABCs of First Grade

   Attendance - If your child is absent, please send in a note explaining the reason for the absence.

   Breakfast – Be sure your child eats a good breakfast every day to keep him/her alert and ready to learn.

  Dismissal – If, for any reason, your child is not going home their regular way, we must have a note from you.  If your child’s dismissal changes during the day, please call and leave a message with the main office, never on the teacher’s voicemail.

Folders - Students will have a take home folder which will go home each night and contain newsletters, notes, student work and notices.  Please review nightly and send back to school with your child each day.

Gym – Sneakers should be worn on Gym days (Please refer to Special Schedule)

Homework - Given most days, Monday through Thursday

Reading- 10-15 minutes a night 

Math- either a workbook page or worksheet sent home in the folder

Independent Reading – The classroom library is available to students to choose books for independent reading.

Journals - Frequent journal writing will move from inventive spelling to more conventional spelling and complete sentences.   

Kindness - Students are expected to treat all members of the class with kindness and understanding.

Lunch - We will eat lunch from 11:50-12:35 each day.

Morning Meeting - We have daily morning meetings where students will participate in calendar and weather activities, morning messages and songs.

Nutritious Snack – Please send in a nutritious snack and juice box in a separate bag labeled with your child’s name, each day. We have snack at around 9:15 in the morning.

Our Specials - Daily from 1:35-2:20  Please refer special schedule.            

Possessions- Should be marked with your child’s name.

Questions or Concerns – Please feel free, at any time, to send a note in your child’s folder, or call us at 639-6320.

Reading - Spend time reading with your child each night.

Supplies - Please send in your child’s supplies as soon as possible so he or she can participate in all classroom activities. 

 Technology- The students will use Chromebooks in the classroom. Please be sure to send in headphones.

Unique – Students will learn that they are special and unique.  They will be given opportunities to share their culture and learn about other cultures within the class.

Valuable – Every child is a special and valuable member of our class.

We Are A Team - Please feel free to come and talk to me any time you have comments, concerns, or questions 

regarding your child.

Xtra Special Attention - If there is something taking place in your child's life that is not in the ordinary routine, such as a death in the family, a pet running away, a parent gone on a business trip, etc., please let me know.  I do not need to know specific details, but it is very helpful to know if a child needs a little extra attention and an understanding ear

YOU – You are the most important person in your child’s life! 

 Zzzs - Be sure your child gets plenty of rest. First Grade can be very busy and quite tiring for your child
