A little more about me...

Early Life

I am originally from the state of Michigan! I moved to Tennessee with my family (dad, mom, brother, and sister) when I was seven years old. My family had bought the old KOA Kampground (currently known as Ballyhoo campground). It was so cool to own and work at a campground!

I was in second grade when we moved down here from Michigan. I finished up second grade and the rest of my elementary years at Homestead Elementary. From fifth grade up through eighth grade, I was part of the HES Band. I was in the percussion section, so I played a variety of instruments such as the bells, chimes, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, and more! I loved it so much that I went on to join the marching band at Cumberland County High School.

At CCHS, I was part of, what they call, "The Pit" in marching band. I played the bells, xylophone, vibraphone, and my favorite, the marimba! As part of The Pit, we didn't have to march with the rest of the band. We usually set up our instruments on the sideline of the football field. I really enjoyed being a part of the marching band.

Not only was I part of the band, I also played soccer. I was part of a couple different CRYSA teams. I played for two or three years. I loved playing and being part of a team. In my free time, I also enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee and flag football with my friends.

I graduated from CCHS in 2006. Our senior class was the last group to graduate before Stone Memorial High School opened up. We had over 400 students in our senior class! That's almost twice as many students there are at Pive View!

Career

Once I graduated from high school, I went on to attend college at Roane State Community College here in Crossville. I did not know what I wanted to do at that point. I just knew that I wanted a degree, so I started at Roane State and just took the general classes that everyone has to take.

I stuck with my general classes for two semesters before I decided that I wanted to get a degree in elementary education. After that, I did another two years at Roane State, that included the education classes, and then I moved to Cookeville to attend Tennessee Technological University. I had to complete two more years at TTU before I got my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (K-6).

After graduating from Tech, I moved back to Crossville and worked as a substitute and interim teacher around the county. I've worked at almost every school in Cumberland County! I finally got my first official position at Crab Orchard as a Special Education assistant.

I worked as an assistant for a year, and I learned so much about what it takes to be a teacher! The next year I was hired to teach third grade! I loved my third grade class and I learned a lot that year (just as I learn new things every year), but I felt like my calling was for middle school students. I was offered a spot teaching seventh and eighth grade math the next year and I jumped on it!

Before I could officially teach seventh and eighth grade though, I had to be certified! So that summer, I went back to TTU to take one more class and another Praxis test. Now I'm certified to teach any subject through eighth grade.

Since taking that math position, I've been able to work with some awesome people and awesome students!

Personal Life

I currently live in Crossville (about a 30-minute drive from Pine View) with my husband, Dereck, our seven-year-old son, Grey, and our new little one, Miles. He was born in August 2023. Dereck and I have been together almost 17 years! We've been married for ten of those years.

I love love love being able to spend time with Grey! He has the best imagination and brings out the kid in me whenever we get to play. He's so fun and funny right now. I also love to introduce him to new things. We really enjoy going to new places like a zoo, an aquarium, or a theme park. And I can't wait to start sharing those experiences with Miles! But for now, I'll enjoy all the baby cuddles.

Dereck and I also love to travel! We really enjoy hiking and different outdoor activities. We actually have a travel bucket list that seems to be getting longer and longer as we add places that we want to visit. At the top of our list though is Ireland, Hawaii, and Scotland!

My parents still live in Crossville as well. My sister, Caitlin, who is two years younger than me, lives in Knoxville, Tennessee and works as at Coca-Cola currently, while my brother, Nick, who is four years younger than me, lives in Lenoir City now with his wife and son, Sawyer! I love spending time with family, whether it's just the four of us (me, Dereck, Grey, and Miles) or family get-togethers. We always have a blast!

If I hadn't become a teacher I would've become a... crime scene investigator.

I really want to learn to... play my ukulele!

I would love to have my own... scooter! I would just need somewhere to be able to use it every day though, so I guess I would also love to have my own dream house close to a lake with places to ride my scooter!

I know all the lyrics to... "Stand Out" from the Goofy Movie soundtrack! I probably know all the lyrics to most Disney movie songs. Impressive, I know.

If I won the lottery, I would... travel the world with my family, among other things.
