Extension & Enrichment

There will continue to be plenty of opportunities for the children to be involved in extension and enrichment. This covers programmes within the classroom and extra opportunities, academic, cultural, and sporting beyond the classroom. For example there will be kapa haka, library, peer mentors, choir, ICAS competitions, cricket and flippaball to name just a few. It’s just a matter of the children making sure they get involved when the opportunities arise.

There will also be a number of service opportunities children can be involved from. We already have patrols and librarians helping everyone and are on the lookout for children to help with the garden, the sandpit, recycling, peer mentors, the PE sheds and running our Catchups to name a few.

After camp we will begin to do a little bit of swapping around for Maths. This is to help us manage the broad range of stages the children are at, in particular allowing us to group those children working at the higher stages and taking advantage of teacher strengths.

Finally, we are very keen to provide extra enrichment opportunities for small groups of children to leave the school to explore areas of interest to them. For example this may include visiting someone, visiting a gallery or business or taking part in an activity.
