I am a doctoral candidate at Case Western Reserve University, pursuing an interdisciplinary PhD between the Departments of Psychological Sciences and Philosophy. I have received extensive training in experimental psychology, philosophy, and neuroscience (fMRI = functional magnetic resonance imaging). I am interested in the relationship between a broadly non-social, analytic and mechanistic way of thinking on the one hand, and a broadly social-emotional, empathic and humanistic on the other. According to the Opposing Domains Theory, we are neurologically constrained from optimally enagaging both modes at the same time, and seamlessly translating concepts between them. I am currently interested in applying this theory to the ways we think about and research addiction and recovery, and potentially other psychiatric diagnoses.
