I teach...

Math and Language Arts

This year, I look forward to teaching math, language arts, and executive functioning skills to 6th and 7th graders in need of specialized academic instruction. Classes will feature small group learning where students are working on assignments appropriate for their levels of readiness. All students are encouraged to practice their skills outside of the classroom. For math, they can always work on the IXL program online. For language arts, students should be reading and writing daily. For students who don't like reading independently, listening to audio books and being read to is still a great way to gain exposure to written and oral language.

Academic Support

The 6th and 7th grade schedules include blocks for academic support (WIN and the Allied Arts rotation). These times will be used for direct instruction to support the work students are doing in their content area classes and/or help them meet their IEP goals. Academic support time will vary from student to student based on need.

Homework: For your information, the homework calendar on my website is not active. Due to the nature of my program and the individualized programming, it’s really difficult to put homework on the website without using student names. Unlike some other classes, there is not one assignment per day for the entire class. Rather, there are a few groups working at various levels. If an assignment was posted on the website, no one would know who was supposed to do what. When I assign homework, I have students write it in their planners. Please ask your child to show you his or her planner regularly so that you can see what he/she needs to do! Also, please do not hesitate to email at any point if your child can't tell you what he/she needs. I try to respond to these emails quickly so students can complete their work that afternoon/evening.

Miscellaneous: Regular cleanings of your child's accordion file/binder and backpack are also helpful! They tend to carry many papers around with them, so sorting things on a regular basis will help them be more organized. It will also give you a chance to see some of the work they've been doing.

Supplies: Please see the News & Announcements link below for a list of classroom supplies.
