APUSH Summer Reading
2021-2022
2021-2022
Welcome 2021-22 APUSHers! Your summer reading assignment is to read and take notes from these chapters listed below in our class text, Pageant (Chapters 1 through 5). Use a 3" notebook and have a 3" binder for the first day of class. Please work in these chapters and not another versions online. These notes are due the FIRST DAY of CLASS.
On notetaking - How much is too much? How little is too little? An open notebook quiz on day 1 will give you the answer! :) Use all of those tips and skills you have learned since 7th grade in this process - formulate questions in your head for each heading (who, what, where, WHY, HOW) and "hunt" for the answers. Don't rewrite the text or use full sentences. Instead, work "smarter" and summarize key paragraphs and look for causation, change over time, comparisons, turning points, and significance. Still not sure? Go to Youtube and look for help. (FYI - You can figure out just about ANYTHING from Youtube - how to play the piano...change oil...etc). I have attached a couple of videos I thought were useful.
NOTE on the RULES: All notetaking is complete by you and only you. All notes are to be HANDWRITTEN in your 3" NOTEBOOK unless you have been granted special permission discussed ahead of time (504 or IEP). They are NEVER typed, borrowed, or rewritten off the Internet. They are never sold or purchased. They are not to be from a sibling or a past graduate. The purpose here is to LEARN the material. Therefore, there are no shortcuts. You must read and take notes.
A word of encouragement: It will get easier. :)
