Canton Middle School PTO

The Canton Middle School PTO Board would like to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! We hope that this will be a great year for each and every one of you!

Our top priorities are building school spirit, enhancing our childrens' educational experience, encouraging celebration, and showing appreciation.

Over the last few years, the PTO has organized welcome back bags for staff members, a visit from local Batchy Brew coffee truck, CMS masks for students, fall and spring teacher conference lunches, supported the 7th grade fall festival, “Thankful for CMS” and “We Love CMS” treats for all CMS staff, fulfilled a math department request for student whiteboards & markers, funded guest speakers and cultural enrichment programs, supported the Student Council during Spirit Week, surprised the staff with Teacher Appreciation treats in May, organized an ice cream truck visit during 7th & 8th grade field day, organized and funded the 8th grade picnic and the 8th grade promotion night, paid for summer reading books for all students, assisted in funding field trips, and much, much more!

In August 2021, our main fundraiser, the Lobster Loop 5K, had some of the highest student participation in recent memory. We promoted the race with fun incentives for sports teams, as well as worked to make the race more accessible by partnering with Canton Parks and Recreation to form a "Lobster Loop Couch to 5K" running program over the summer.

Last year, the PTO had many additional opportunities to support the students and staff at CMS. The PTO assisted the Student Council in purchasing art supplies for a school-wide Veteran's Day project, purchased a speaker for the Physical Education staff to enhance the students' experience while in the gym, purchased an easel and adjustable tables to meet needs in special education classrooms, funded PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) initiatives, purchased a camera for the Yearbook Club, and assisted with the 8th grade Greek Banquet. We collaborated with the PTOs at Cherry Brook Primary School and Canton Intermediate School to organize the 1st ever Bus Driver Appreciation Week. We organized the inaugural Student vs. Staff soccer game last Fall, which brought close to 50 students to the turf participating in the game, while many other students participated in the band (playing the National Anthem), and representatives from Student Council selling concessions. The cost of admission was a non-perishable food item for the Canton Food Bank, and we collected over 200 items!

We also felt it important to express appreciation to our PTO members, and held raffles throughout the year of donated items to our members. The prizes have included: a handmade Fall wreath, a large mum planter, a holiday centerpiece, and a Valentine flower arrangement.

All ideas are welcome!! We look forward to a school year filled with exciting new events as well as beloved traditions. With your support, we can make this year even more fun than last year for the students and staff at Canton Middle School!
