AMERICAN HISTORY
Mr. Turocy
Class Goal:
It is always my goal in class to provide students with the top-notched education that the Canfield Schools are known for. I also want to provide the students with an education that will tie in the history of the United States, and how it is still relevant in today’s world.
Class Materials
Assignment notebook
Composition Notebook or Notebook Paper
Folder
Pencil, pen, and (1) highlighter (any color)
Big Ideas that will be covered during the year:
Exploration to Colonization
American Revolution
A New Nation & Its’ Laws
The Constitution
Early Presidents (through the Civil War)
U.S. Westward Expansion
Slavery and the American Civil War
Reconstruction
Grades will be calculated throughout each quarter and broken down this way:
- Homework, graded classwork, etc.
- Quizzes, test, projects, writing assignments, etc.
Grading Scale:
A: 90-100
B: 80-89
C: 70-79
D: 60-69
Homework Policy:
Homework will be assigned 2-3 times weekly. Each assignment will be due the day after it is assigned, unless otherwise instructed. Any assignment that is late (without an excused absence/reason) can be turned in the next day for 1/2 credit. No points will be given for assignments that are 2 days late.
It is the responsibility of the student to show any missing, late, or absent assignments to the teacher in order to receive credit.
Testing Policy:
Students whom are absent the day of a test will be required to make-up that test the next day that they are in class. Some circumstances may allow for a longer extension (absent multiple days in a row, etc.)
To be successful this year:
Be prepared: always come to class with proper materials and any assignments that are due
Be Respectful: Each class period is crucial in the education of not only you but your classmates as well. For example, talking out of turn and disrupting the class will not be tolerated. Also, this class will require each student to form and discuss their opinions on many matters and it is required that you listen carefully and quietly to everyone’s opinion. Follow the golden rule on this one.
Be active: Participating in class on a daily basis will not only help you stay focused but it will also help out your grade for the year.
Have Fun: History class is not the most exciting topic for some but it is my goal to try and make it enjoyable for everyone. It is always acceptable to laugh at my terrible jokes. Laugh with me, not at me :)
Class Resources:
This class will utilize resources such as Google Classroom, Remind, and Progress Book to help facilitate assignments and grades. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to also participate with these resources to check on assignments/grades. All assignments, due dates, and necessary materials will be forwarded through these applications.
