This is my 24th year teaching and my 13th year back after eight years working part-time. I graduated from SCHS in 1988 and Appalachian State University in 1992. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in History Secondary Education. I started teaching at SCHS in the fall of 1992. In 2001, I left teaching to be at home with my children. My daughter Meredith was born in 2000, my son James in 2002, and my daughter Emma in 2005.
I am married to Matt Ingram who also teaches Social Studies at SCHS. When I left in 2001, he took my job. Great way to find a replacement, huh?
Currently I teach AP, Honors, and Regular level World History as well as AP Human Geography.
One of my passions for my classroom is for it to be globalized. By globalized, I mean there is a focus on 21st century skills and how the world works. My goal is for students to be better prepared for life after high school in the 21st century. The world is getting "flatter and flatter." This means students will need to be prepared to investigate the world, recognize perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action. All my lessons and units center around these four skills.
In my free time, I spend time with my family, read, cook, or work-out. I also love to watch good movies, go camping, travel (I organize international trips for students and parents), listen to great music, and go for long walks.
