Math

A large focus of our curriculum here at C2E is mathematics. For this class I will be sending an email invite through your Parent Portal email address from Class Dojo which I use as a behavior management tool. We use Saxon Math and are one grade level above many other schools. This year we will be focusing heavily on multiplication and division as well as fractions and decimals. While I use Saxon Math Curriculum, I modify it slightly so that students can focus on certain areas more in depth than others as we proceed. I have modified the curriculum and each homework/classroom assignment has been made specifically for my class and focuses on quality rather than quantity. For this reason, it is important that students make sure to take their homework sheets home each day, or their math books based on what HW assignment we have that evening. Each of these assignments will be addressed on my calendar, so please check my calendar regularly. Also, please note that while some lessons have problems on the back of the sheet, which I have handpicked, others do not. If a lesson has mental math on the back this should be done using the math book for that particular lesson and the page number is usually included. If the page number is not included please go to the math book lesson which is on the HW sheet and complete the mental math or that lesson. I have included the link below to access the math book from home, however, this system can sometimes be glitchy and should be used only as a backup for students to use if they forget their math book. In order to access this book students must be logged into their own Google account. To do this they will go to Google Chrome and type in their Username and Password. Only Google accounts through the C2E mainframe will have access. Please do not make any notes on these pages as it is shared with everyone in the class and very hard to remove. Students who draw or write in the online math book will no longer be allowed to use the online math book and will sacrifice their extra recess for the week of the infraction as well as have a Walking Recess for that week.

If your student is struggling with a certain lesson, or you have extra time, please refer to the book and use examples and lesson practice to further help your student. Another area I would strongly recommend you to work with your students at home on is memorizing multiplication facts and division facts as this will greatly help them with various areas we will be covering this year. Also, if there is any way I can better help your student to learn these concepts please let me know and together we can ensure they are successful. Furthermore, I will be assigning extra lessons in Iready throughout the quarter that will help with some of the more difficult concepts. It is important that your student completes the Extra Lessons and these should be done before completing regular lessons.
