The Gifted and High Achieving program at Byron Intermediate School services students in grades 3 through 5. Grades three and four will meet for Cub on Tuesdays – Fridays at 1:30. Fifth grade students will meet on Mondays for an extended period of time. With the district focus on personalized learning, both programs will be split into semesters, with the first semester focusing on mathematics and the second semester focused on reading. These changes will allow us to meet the needs of more students, but may also mean that some students only attend Cub for half of the year.
While the focus this first semester is on math, the program will continue to use a project based, multi-disciplinary approach focused on giving the students both the opportunity to apply their knowledge of mathematics and time to explore their passions. The state math standards will be our guide, however the goal is for students to develop a deeper understanding of the standards while applying them in real-world situations.
