Discussion and Debate

I have modified the traditional Cross Examination, Lincoln Douglass, and Public Forum debates so that students will learn the basis of all three and incorporate them into two major debates during the semester. The students will learn how to write a bill or resolution and will hold several congress sessions. The students will spend most of the semester researching and discussing controversial topics and learning to use evidence to support their arguments rather than opinion. This course relies on critical thinking skills, organizational skills, refutation skills, and persuasive speaking skills. Students who love to argue and are strongly opinionated should take this class!
