Paragraph Endings
There’s something else.
You have to use a conclusion statement for your paragraphs.
Examples:
Remember the paragraph about how motorcycles were such a good investment? (Your parents might really need to hear this one.) The last sentence of that paragraph summed things up pretty well. It said:
“It is obvious that anyone with enough courage would be smart to buy a motorcycle.”
This is a good line for ending the paragraph on how wonderful these little machines are! You want the reader to be convinced. You have stated an opinion. You have made a statement that a lot of people would argue with (assuming you wrote the paragraph in the first place, which you didn’t). This last sentence is a winner! It really wraps up the paragraph and gets the point across.
How about the paragraph on being famous? The last line read: “Actually, fame could turn out to be a curse.” What a punchline! What a wrap-up!
You need to button your paragraphs with concluding statements so the reader truly knows your stand on a subject. The last thing you want your reader to hear are your immortal last words on the subject at hand (your topic sentence). People remember what they read last.
