This class is a HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL GEOMETRY course and is only for students who have already mastered the basic skills and concepts of Algebra 1. Students who meet the requirements may earn 10 high school math credits in the El Dorado High School District for this course and may begin their 9th grade year taking Advanced Algebra 2.

***REQUIREMENTS TO EARN HIGH SCHOOL COURSE CREDITS AND TO BE PLACED IN ADVANCED ALGEBRA 2 NEXT YEAR ***

  • 80% or higher on BOTH Geo. finals (semester & year end)

  • Overall grade of 85% or higher each trimester

  • 85% or higher test average (not incl. Quizzes, or HW)

Students who do not meet these 3 requirements, will be recommended to repeat Geometry in 9th grade.

Please Note: If a student meets the requirements above their final grade averages from 2nd and 3rd trimesters of the Geometry class will be included as the letter grade on the HS transcript.

Therefore, grades in this 8th grade Geometry course can affect their cumulative high school GPA, which is used for college applications.

SOLVING A QUADRATIC EQUATION

*Remember you are finding the roots of the parabola (or where the parabola crosses the x-axis)

There are also other methods such as completing the square, square root method, or graphing the parabola to find the roots.
