Welcome to Kapa Haka 2026.
You all have your booklets which contain the waiata and haka that we will be learning in Term 2. It is important that you learn the kupu (words) and the actions for each waiata so that you can perform with confidence.
I hope you have a wonderful year being part of this group - it is an opportunity to learn and grow and be part of something very special here at Browns Bay School.
You will see some extra waiata on the google slides below here - we might include them later in the year but will focus on the ones in your book first.
The Matariki Festival is at the end of Term 2.
For that festival we will include:
Te Iwi E
Tihore Mai
Purea Nei
Tihei Mauri Ora
Wairua Tapu
Rangitoto Haka
Scroll down to see extra practise videos which will help you with your learning for Te Iwi E, Rangitoto Haka and Tihei Mauri Ora.
Girls, here's a clip that would be good for you to watch and to practise with. It will help you get used to holding your poi at the right length for you to use easily and teach you the basic movements. Try and do a little bit of practice each day and you'll be amazed at how quickly you improve.
Kapa haka practice videos
Here's some videos of the actions for our waiata and haka. Try and do some practice - even just a few minutes - as often as you can as repetition will be hugely helpful to your learning. When you can, practise using your performance voice as clearly and loudly as you can. Have fun!
