March 25, 2012 - Back to Class with Brown Faculty
More than 50 alumni and friends of Brown gathered March 25 to hear Brown's Marie Myung-Ok Lee speak on her visit in 2009 to North Korea with a group of Brown students. Lee is Visiting Lecturer in Ethnic Studies and Writer in Residence at Brown's Center for the Study of Race & Ethnicity in America. She was accompanied on the trip by her octogenarian mother who was born in North Korea and escaped to the South a few hours before the border was sealed. Photographs (some of which were "illegal") provided a rare glimpse inside the world's most secretive and isolated nation.
