This is a semester course that will introduce students to computer programming via an object-oriented programming language such as python or java. No prior programming experience is expected. Students will learn about the basic structures underlying all programs: looping, sequential directives, and decision making via the use of data structures known as objects. Our simple programs will allow students to provide and manipulate information via computers. Students who pass this project-based class will learn how logic and arithmetic are essential to algorithm design. A laptop is required for this course.
Prerequisites: 65% or higher on the Algebra 1 Regents Exam and a 65% or higher year-long course average in Algebra 1.
