Course Information:
Year 2 of IBHL History class focuses on developments across the globe from approximately 1800-2000 CE with a particular focus on struggles for power against a foreign or domestic sovereign. We will begin by studying independence movements from around the world, looking at Haiti and Vietnam, and asking ourselves what makes fledgling nation states successful. Next we will investigate the rise and impacts of authoritarian states through Nazi Germany, Maoist China, and and Nasserist Egypt. Finally we will continue the Rights and Protest unit from Year 1, this time investigating the fight against apartheid in South Africa. You will complete your Internal Assessment: Historical Investigation requirement over the course of the fall and winter. Through all of this, we will prepare you for your Papers 1 and 2, and continue to work on your Paper 3, so that you are ready to be successful on your IB tests in early May 2021. Last year’s 12th grade cohort beat the US and IB World Average on the IB HL History Exam.
