Welcome to Mrs. Stubbs's Second Grade!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Second Grade at our brand new school, Candlewood Lake Elementary!  I am very excited for a new school year, and look forward to meeting your child on the first day of school.  I also look forward to seeing you at the Second Grade Open House in September.

I would like to introduce myself to your family and tell you a bit about my background. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Duke University, and a Master’s degree in Education from The Ohio State University. After returning to Connecticut, I taught second grade in New Canaan for 6 1/2 years and then took a leave of absence to raise my two sons, Ryan (26) and Kyle (25). During this leave, my husband and I had moved to northern Fairfield County, and I decided to investigate teaching possibilities closer to home.  This is my twenty-ninth year as an educator, and my twenty second year teaching in Brookfield.  I am thrilled to be part of the Candlewood Lake Elementary School community!

Starting on the first day of school, please remember to send lunch (if your child is not ordering a school lunch) and one healthy snack packed each and every day. Snack times will be short, so please send only one item for snack.  Good snack choices include fruit, granola bars, cheese, crackers, or vegetables, such as carrot sticks.  You may also send yogurt in a cup, but no Gogurts, please. These tend to be very messy! Please be sure your child also has a water bottle in his/her backpack every day, so he/she can drink at snack time or throughout the day when thirsty. Please be sure to remind your child to keep the cap on tight to avoid spills!

When I see you at Open House, I will have additional information for you regarding school policies, the second grade curriculum and our daily schedule.

Again, welcome to our very first year at Candlewood Lake Elementary School!  I am very excited to be working with your child and look forward to a wonderful year!
