Wordly Wise
Every Monday and Wednesday, students will be assigned activities from the book to complete as morning work. The pages are homework, if not finished in homeroom, and they are due on Friday. Each lesson takes 2 weeks to complete. Tests will be given every other Friday.
Language Arts
The Language Arts Curriculum is based on the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. We will work through the writing process by writing multi-paragraph narrative pieces that include characters, setting, and events, multi-paragraph informational pieces to include descriptions, reports, and essays, and persuasive pieces with a clearly stated opinion and appropriate supporting reasons.
We will focus on identifying topic, task, and audience and using well-developed content appropriate to the topic with organization within and between paragraphs. Students will focus on speaking and listening standards.
Grammar topics (i.e. conjunctions, prepositions, adverbs) will also be addressed throughout the year.
Reading
This year, we are piloting the curriculum for the program Wonders. The students will receive reading, grammar, and spelling instruction through this program.
We will also read Storyworks magazines.
