Together, we will make this a great year!
Below I've outlined basic expectations for my classes. Most of all though, be kind, respectful, & patient with each other and your teachers! :)
Classroom expectations:
*7th graders: you should always be prepared for class. Please make sure you always have:
charged Chromebook (but also your charger just in case!)
assignment book
pen/pencil (yes, we still use those)
silent reading book
LA folder/ paper (A binder is also an option, but have a folder at least)
*If homework was assigned make sure it's done before class (not when you come in the day of!)
*Assignment books are to be filled out at the very beginning of class. Daily agenda & homework will be posted on my board AND in Google Classroom every day! If absent, you'll find everything you need in Google Classroom. It is your responsibility to check!
*I try to keep my online portal as up-to-date as possible. (Note: lengthier assignments do take longer to grade and will take time to appear in the portal). You should check the portal regularly (once every 1-2 weeks) to monitor progress and keep track of assignments throughout each quarter.
**I'm always here for extra help if you need it. Ask me in class, or check in with me at study at the end of the day. (Check with your Homeroom teacher first before you leave!) You may also meet me before school, but schedule a time in advance to ensure I am available. I want to help however I can, so never hesitate to approach me. :)
Grading Policy
*Work that is assigned, whether formative (homework/classwork) or summative (tests, essays, projects), will be assessed using a total point system which is broken down by category.
*Grading categories are intended to reflect the specific competency that students are working to master.
Reading
Writing
Vocabulary
Grammar
Also: Habits of Mind which separately evaluates the effort & punctuality of work from its academic value.
PLEASE NOTE:
*Assignments that are not submitted at all will receive a zero. Late work is often accepted, though may not be if a unit has already ended. (See me if unsure!) Until assignments are received completed, they will be marked as "missing" in Infinite Campus.
*Re-takes are an option, but not for every assessment, including those that are open-notes. They will be addressed on a case-by-case basis, as circumstances may be varied.
*As 7th graders, I expect you to take responsibility & ownership for your learning. This means you should be writing down your homework on a daily basis, checking the portal, & ensuring that work is made up if you are absent. You have resources available to help you, so use them!
