Coaches

Ray Butler was named the 3rd Head Football Coach in the last 43 years at Boston Latin School in April of 2016. Butler follows the long tenures of Coach John McDonough e.'58 and MHSFCA Hall of Fame inductee, Paul Costello.

Butler is a veteran football coach in the New England area, totaling over 20 years of coaching experience. Prior to coming to Boston Latin School, he served as the Head Coach of South Boston High School, offensive coordinator at MIT, Framingham State, Curry College and Mount Ida College. He has also served on the staffs at Umass-Lowell and the University of Rhode Island working with the offensive line, running backs and coordinating video. Coach Butler began his collegiate coaching career at MIT in 1999 where he was the running backs coach. Butler has also coached at Holliston High School and Boston Latin School.

Outside of his Boston Latin School coaching duties, Butler has worked as a physical education teacher at the elementary, high school and collegiate levels.

He is currently on the staff at Boston Latin School where he teaches physical education classes for grades 7-10.

Coach Butler attended Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education/Human Movement in 1993. He went on to get his Master's in Education/Human Movement from BU in 1995 and received his Master's of Science in Athletic Administration from Ohio University in 2013. Coach Butler is also a National Federation of State High Schools Associations and USA Football Certified Interscholastic Coach as well as a National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Registered Athletic Administrator.
