PLUS: Peer Leaders Uniting Students

The PEER LEADERS UNITING STUDENTS (PLUS) Program was founded out of the necessary fundamental need to feel a sense of belonging to a group identity. The need for a sense of belonging to a group becomes the catalyst to engage Fairmont students in meaningful participation facilitated by the group in which they feel this sense of belonging to. The PLUS Program seeks to protect, connect and educate kids in an effort to create a culture on campus where inclusion is a reality for all Fairmont students. The Peer Leaders Uniting Students (PLUS) Program was originally developed in 2002 and has been implemented in 515 schools in 13 states throughout the United States. Fairmont is the first school in the state of Idaho to offer it!

PLUS Forum

The PLUS forums are held on campus during a 2-hour block period. The forums are open to EVERY Fairmont student who wants to participate. Participation in the PLUS forum empowers students with a voice to be active members in discussions that identify critical issues on campus such as bullying, violence, substance use, stereotypes, and the overall development of a safe school. Students will take part in multiple bonding activities and work in small groups to brainstorm solutions to the issues they feel are impacting our campus. The students on the PLUS team serve as peer facilitators for group discussions and activities during the PLUS forum. The forums serve as a means for students to develop an understanding of who each other is rather than what they are labeled as. After going through the forum, students develop a sense of belonging to the PLUS program, which in turn develops positive relationships with peers and adults. Forums are held several times a year on campus with 20-30 students in attendance.

Parent/Guardian permission is required, please complete the form below
