Welcome to Google Groups for Group Administrators!
Your supervisor designated you as an owner or moderator of a Google Group. The following online tutorial will help you become a Google Group guru to handle the day-to-day management and oversight of your designated group. There are a few activities in this tutorial that will get you started on managing your own group. However, most users will need to finish setting all of their preferences after the assessment is complete.
You need to complete the Google Group Self-Assessment (for non-owners or moderators) prior to this tutorial and assessment. If you have not done so, please visit http://goo.gl/wCMIj (case sensitive).
Sincerely,
David Boxer
Section 1: Knowing the Lay of the Land
Logging into Google Groups as an administrator is exactly the same as accessing Groups as an end user. Google will automatically detect the groups for which you have administrative rights.
I can successfully navigate to the “My Groups” section of groups.blakeschool.org.
I know how to access the “Manage” section for Groups that I control.
I understand that I must submit a support request (support.blakeschool.org) to have a new Group created.
Section 2: Managing Members
As a Google Groups Administrator, you will have control of the users in your group. Please keep in mind, however, that members of your group have the ability to leave or unsubscribe from the group at any time. The ISS Team has already transferred the members of your group from FirstClass. We ask that you ensure that this data is still accurate. From here on out, you will be in charge of your group’s membership; no need to submit a support request to have members added or deleted.
Section 3: Adjusting Group Settings
Your Google Group is in your hands! Please use the resources to the right to ensure that you can adjust the settings of your group(s) to fit your needs.

Identity
I can require my group members to display their Blake-assigned Google Name (as opposed to an alias of their choosing, such as The Boss or john473).
Moderation
I can require that posts to my group are moderated before they are published.
I can filter spam sent to the group email address into the moderated holding area.
New Members
By default, your group will not be available to everyone at Blake, nor will it be searchable on the Web. However, you may open up these settings if you so choose.

If applicable, I can allow users outside of The Blake School domain to access my group.
I can change my settings to allow anyone at Blake to join my group.
I can change my settings to allow anyone at Blake to request membership.

Owners of the group
Managers of the group
All members of the group
any custom role you create
The Permissions area is split into four sub-sections: Basic, Posting, Moderation, and Access.

Section 5: General Information
The ISS Team has assigned your group a number of preferences, including the group name and email address. However, all of these settings are customizable. Use the resources to the right to ensure that you know how to change these preferences.
I can change the allowed topic types to include Discussions, Questions, or Both.
I can choose whether or not my group is listed in Blake’s Google Groups Directory.
Advanced Features
Please remember that you have full administrative privileges over your group. The following features are only to be utilized intentionally. The settings we’ve covered until this point can be reverted or changed. The following cannot. If you delete a group, the information contained within cannot be retrieved.
