Who We Are
Prospect Girl Guides is a part of Girl Guides South Australia. We also belong to Girl Guides Australia and WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). There are 10 million girls in Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the World, including 22 thousand in Australia!
All Guides around the world make a Promise. The Promise has the same meaning the world over, although the exact wording changes from country to country.
Guides accept girls from all economic backgrounds, ethnic groups and religions. An important part of our philosophy is that we are all sisters together and we can all work together to have fun.
What We Do
Girl Guides do different activities each week. Exactly what we do is determined by the interests of the girls. We teach them to plan their own activities, implement them and evaluate them. This is done at a age appropriate level. For example our littlies may be encourage to choose an activity from a small set of provided activities. As they grow and mature the girls take over more and more of the organisation and planning of activities until by the 14+ age they are almost fully in charge of their own program.
Leaders supervise the safety of the girls during all activities, encourage, provide suggestions and facilitate learning. We try to include service on a regular basis as it is an important part of our philosophy for life. Leaders also encourage a wide range of development in areas such as life skills, cooking, team skills, communication skills, time management, planning, self confidence etc.
Guides is about learning through doing, through practical experience and through having fun.
Some of the activities we have done in the last few years include: rock climbing, laser tag, tree planting, visit Nursing Home, multiple outdoor camps, high ropes course (14+), outdoor cooking, ceremonies, Thinking Day activities, Prospect Fair Trash & Treasure, innumerable games, singing campfire songs, sleepovers etc
