Prerequisites: Before arriving to the workshop, participants should watch the following short movies online about network science:
The "Connected" movie will be played the first night of the workshop, followed by a discussion.
Goals: The participants will be partitioned into five groups, each comprised of three teachers and one network scientist, and with each a different focus area: K-2nd grade, 3-5th grade, 6-8th grade, High School, and Educational Coach. On the workshop's first full day, each group will choose a curriculum module to produce. The team will then collaborate to deliver educational content through the lens of network thinking, facilitated by the network scientist who is ready with knowledge and tools. The three teachers of each group will create lesson plans inside their chosen module and grade band, with added suggestions on how to extend them to the other grades.
Expectations: Each group will brainstorm and create a PowerPoint overview of their lesson plan (to be presented the last day of the workshop). Each group will deliver the lesson plans no later than 2 weeks after the end of the workshop, on July 26th. Upon review and acceptance of lesson plans by the workshop organizers, each teacher will be awarded a stipend of not less than $200.
