Who's Driving My Child's Bus?
Bus drivers must complete rigorous training to qualify for employment in the Transportation Department. The Idaho Association of Pupil Transportation requires that all bus drivers:
Carry a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the proper endorsements, which include the following:
Class B
P - Passenger Endorsement
S - School Bus Endorsement
Air Brakes (Optional)
Have a current Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical.
Have a clean driving record - Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) report.
Must take and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and participate in continued DOT random testing.
Complete a FBI Background check, cleared through the Idaho Department of Education.
Complete and intesive Idaho State School Bus Training Curriculum.
Complete at least 20 hours of training per year.
