Becoming a FACT MASTER

Fluency with the multiplication facts is an important skill to master in 4th grade!

This page will help you to master the 1-9 multiplication facts! First, it's always important to remember that accuracy is the most important part of mastery. After you know the facts well, you can work at increasing your speed.

The best way to practice anything is to do it again and again and again. Not always fun, but it is effective. Use the yellow practices (below) to review the facts. Do them as often as you can. If you don't yet know the facts well, it is OK to look at a multiplication chart. It is also helpful to say the facts as you are typing in the answers. As you complete questions from the yellow, you will see a timer. It is only there to let you see how long you have been working, but you have as long as you need to complete all of the questions. Remember, look at the multiplication chart as much as you need to and say the facts as you work. The idea is to get the questions correct, not to be real fast- yet! As you practice more and more you will find you are looking at the chart less and less.

Every once in a while, use the green practices to see how you are doing. For these questions, the timer will stop you after two minutes and tell you how you did. Don't think of your score as a test score. It is a number for you to try to beat the next time you try!

Most of the time you should be using the yellow and making sure you get all of the answers correct, while slowly improving your speed. Like most things, time spent practicing is the key to success. I hope this helps you to be a master of the facts!
