4 Agreements of Courageous Conversations

  1. Stay Engaged - Don’t Mentally, emotionally, or physically check out.

  2. Experience Discomfort - Heal through pain

  3. Speak Your Truth - This is your truth, your lived experience and voice

  4. Expect and Accept Non-Closure - We are not going to resolve this issue. We should develop more critically conscious self and shared understanding.


Math Lesson Flow:

  1. Warm-Up - 5 Minutes - Do Now / Which one doesn’t belong / Vocabulary

  2. Exploration - 10 - 15Minutes - “This can lead us into Problem Solving / Share”

  3. Collaborative Problem Solving - 25-30 Minutes - What questions can we ask to assess and push student understanding.

  4. Independent Work - 15 Minutes - Think Time / Reflection / iReady if aligned to current work.

  5. Summary Discussion Share - 10-20 Minutes

  6. Problem solving Protocol - 20 Minutes Per Day to do “Problem of the Week” Can be from another resource other than Engage (Problem of the week is the same for each class on the grade) Just because we are giving the same assessment, we can try and dive further for students who are higher functioning.

  7. Assessment - Exit Slip 5-10 Minutes
