Maurice J. Elias is Professor, Psychology Department, Rutgers University and Director, Rutgers Social-Emotional and Character Development Lab (www.secdlab.org). He has received the Sanford McDonnell Award for Lifetime Achievement in Character Education and the Joseph E. Zins Memorial Senior Scholar Award for Social-Emotional Learning from the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL).

He writes a blog on Social-Emotional and Character Development for the George Lucas Educational Foundation at www.edutopia.org and is Co-Director of the Academy for Social-Emotional Learning in Schools (SELinSchools.org), which offers certificate programs in direct instruction and school leadership relating to SEL and character development.

Wilson High School Musicians:
Colby Snyder is a rising senior at Wilson High School with over a decade of musical experience. He currently studies piano with Margaret Hey and cello with Jan Dixon, and he also plays saxophone in school and county ensembles. Last year, he was a member of the PMEA District 10 and All-State orchestras for cello and placed first for piano in the RMF scholarship competition. Beyond music, Colby has a passion for science and plans to major in engineering after high school.
Isabella Vitales is a rising junior at Wilson High School with 8 years of musical experience. She currently studies violin with Christopher Chandler and she plays the alto saxophone in school and county ensembles. She performed at The Dorothy Sutton State Festival in 2019. Last year, she was a member of the PMEA District 10 orchestra for violin and played for the county and school orchestras. She is a section leader for the Wilson High School marching band. After high school, Isabella plans to attend college on a pre-med track.
