AP/DACP CHEMISTRY

After completing this full year of chemistry students will have covered the equivalent of the first two semesters of chemistry in college. The laboratory experiences will be more quantitative in nature compared to chemistry and the lecture material will be more intense. Through labs, lectures, and homework this course will: develop theoretical concepts, utilize numerous problem solving techniques, and provide an intense laboratory experience using problem solving and the concepts learned throughout the course. Examples of topics covered include VSEPR theory, gas laws, chemical nomenclature, periodic trends, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, thermochemistry, and electrochemistry.

Students in this chemistry course will have two options to earn college credit in chemistry. The first option is to earn a passing score on the AP Chemistry Exam ($100), which may count for credit at some institutions. The second option is to enroll in the DACP (Dual Academic Credit Program) and earn UW-River Falls credit.  Students must meet the criteria set by UWRF in order to take the course as DACP and also pay a fee, $105 per credit ( $525 for each semester of completed chemistry), or $55 per credit if the student is eligible for free/reduced lunch. These credits can be applied to UWRF Programs or can be transferred to other institutions. Upon request, each student will receive an official transcript showing the course and corresponding grade. The grade earned at BHS is the same grade you will earn on your UWRF transcript, which will become part of your official college record. *See how the credits transfer to other colleges and universities by clicking here.
