What We are Doing

Please welcome Mrs. Carkner to the Kinnaman Gym.

My name is Amanda Carkner. I've been teaching in the district for 10 years. I've taught PE for the past 5 years and was a classroom teacher (3rd and 4th grade) for 5 years.  I really enjoy teaching and encouraging kids to stay active and helping them have the tools to make healthy choices throughout their lives. I love spending time with my family. My husband and I have a 3-year old son and a 1-year old son. For fun, I love to travel, spend time with my family and be outdoors. Fun fact about me: I love the Oregon Ducks and enjoy watching college football with my family! Go ducks!

This first trimester of this school year will be a very busy one for students in Physical Education. Our curriculum will focus on Physical Literacy.   This includes a balance of skills, fitness concepts, game activities and experiences to enhance the cognitive, motor, affective, and physical fitness development of every child.  We conducted units in fitness challenges, motor/non-locomotor/cognitive development, chasing, fleeing, dodging, and playground games.

Grade decisions are based on areas of cognitive, physical, and social skills.  This includes areas of being a good listener, following directions, working well with others, good role models, making the positive choice, self manager, safety, sportsmanship, being fair to all, respectful of their peers, classmates, and equipment, and able to have FUN!!   Ongoing fitness assessment is used as part of the process of helping our children understand, enjoy, improve and/or maintain their physical health and well-being.

We need to remember proper PE attire. This includes wearing the correct and safe shoes.  Shoes need to be flat, rubber sole, and toes covered to be safe for PE. Please do not have wear Crocks, high heels, or sandles to your Physical Education Class. If not, students could  be asked to sit out durring our class.
