Writing: - Fourth grade is a big year for our budding writers. They will take the writing portion of the FSA in April. Their writing score is calculated in with the overall FSA Reading score, We will begin text-based, opinion writing in October. Students are expected to learn and follow the writing process. Our goal is for them to be able to read and respond to multiple texts with a well organized, five paragraph informative/opinion essay depending on the prompt. I will do a lot of modeling before students are expected to write independently. We will continue to review basic handwriting, capitalization , and grammar.

Math:

Math Homework: Each night (except Fridays *unless otherwise noted) students will have a math workbook page to complete as homework. Students must complete BOTH the reteach and practice side to receive credit the next day. Students that do not have their homework OR if homework is not completed, he/she will receive an infraction. Please refer to your child's planner for homework each night. It is also on my website. I have students write upcoming math quiz/test dates in their planners several days prior to the assessment.

Timed Multiplication Quizzes: We will continue to do the timed multiplication quizzes. The students will have three attempts to make a 90% or above. For example, if on the first attempt, your child scores 89% or below, he/she will have the opportunity to quiz on the same facts a second attempt. If needed, he/she will have a third attempt to score a 90% or above before moving on to the next set. After the third attempt, the grade will be whatever he/she makes on that third quiz. If your child scores a 90% or above on his/her first attempt, he/she will move on to the next set of facts. We will begin with the 2's and move on from there. It is imperative that students know their math facts fluently, everything we do in fourth grade math is based on those multiplication facts.

Unit:

*I wanted to make sure everyone knows that I have homework written down on my board when the students come in every morning. It is their responsibility to copy it down in their planner. I do remind them at the end of the day to write it down if they haven't already. Homework assignments are clear to every student. I also have the assignments listed on this site. Planners must be signed even if there is no homework. No exceptions. Students receive an infraction when planners are not signed. It is your child's responsibility to have you sign the planner, but please help him/her remember it. Thank you!!
