Here were the hints for Frozen:
It's Xanadu! No it's not...that's the joke every year.
Mrs. Hriniak has preview scripts in her classroom...but beware of decoy scripts.
Just a reminder that nothing is official until we receive the box of scripts. Our performance license application might not be approved by the script company, so we can't announce anything until we have box in hand.
It will be a middle school level show. That means a Youth Edition for the Concord script company or a Junior version for the MTI company. See those websites for a list of possible shows.
It will be a show we have not done at Nitschmann yet. See the marquees in the auditorium lobby so you know what shows we have already done.
Two years ago was a fairy tale show for Cinderella. Last year was a "wild card" show for Rock of Ages. This year was a classic theater show for Anything Goes. I wonder what genre next year's show will be.
Tap dancing? Well...it's not specifically a tap show, but maybe we can incorporate some tap into the show somewhere.
A boat in the show? No, although the script makes a slight reference to a boat.
No, there is no junior/youth edition/middle school version of Hamilton, Wicked, Chicago, Rent, Sweeney Todd, Avenue Q, Miss Saigon, Moulin Rouge, or A Chorus Line. Keep guessing...
One of the songs reminds me of our Nitschmann Alma Mater: "Hail to Nitschmann Middle School..."
Mrs. Lund has some old curtain window treatments that will be perfect for some of our set pieces!
We received a donation of a semicircle platform...I wonder how we can use that in our set.
Yes, we've got Magic To Do, but no, our show is not Pippin.
Disco Ball? Yes!
Congratulations to Freedom on their amazing run of Nice Work If You Can Get It! Sadly, our show does not take place in the 1920s, so no sparkly flapper dress costumes...sorry.
"It's an old song...and we're gonna sing it again"...but sorry 8th graders, there is no middle school version of Hadestown.
Liberty's production of Mamma Mia was amazing! No, there is not a middle school version of Mamma Mia...but maybe we can include a few ABBA songs in the intermission dance.
Congratulations to Mrs. Schultheis and Clearview Drama Club on a fantastic show! One of the characters looked very familiar...I wonder who it could be.
Great job to the students who were on the band trip! Mrs. Hriniak had the DVD of next year's show on Bus 3...I wonder which one it was.
Yes, this show has been performed by another local middle school...I wonder which one.
Fun fact...MTI now has a line of shows called Broadway Senior specifically designed for retirement communities and senior groups. That doesn't apply to us, though, because our show is Broadway Junior.
I think at this point we are all looking forward to summer.
Mrs. H is always looking for an excuse to wear a tiara.
Yes, it is based on a book.
Congratulations to Ms. M! She is a former Nitschmann Dramatics student, and is now a middle school drama club director. Her school is doing MTI's Dare to Dream Jr. I wonder what song is the connection between her show and our show...
Congratulations to our Dramatics students who were in PYT's Mary Poppins! It was a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious show, but it's not our show next year.
Congratulations to Kelsey and all of the Young Playwrights that did YPL and participated in the Young Playwrights' Festival! Kelsey's play was about overcoming self-doubt, which is a big theme in our show too!
We have a few days off of school coming up...enjoy spending some time with your family.
To answer a question that I have been asked...yes, the main character has hair.
The significant color of the show poster is...blue.
Congratulations to Nitschmann Singers and Nitschmann Chorus on a fantastic concert! No, there is no Hamilton Jr. Yes, one of the songs sounds like the Nitschmann Alma Mater. No, there is no Wicked Jr. Yes, there is a reference to a portrait, but it's not Monet.
When does it take place? The easy answer is "General Old Fashioned Times." The more detailed answer is "mid-1800s based on the costumes and visual design." The very specific answer is 1844.
Do you wanna build a set piece?
No, it's not The Little Mermaid. We already did that one...but there is a connection between The Little Mermaid and our show.
MTI just announced a new show called Hans Christian Andersen Jr. That's not our show, but it is very significant.
Congratulations to all of the Freddy Awards nominees and winners! Our show has nominations and/or wins for the Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammy Awards, Tony Awards, Drama Desk Awards, Olivier Awards, BAFTAs, and a bunch of other awards. Come to the Performing Arts Banquet on May 28 to get your awards and find out what next year's show is!
Parcheesi? What does a board game have to do with our show?
Teacher Trivia: Mrs. Hriniak was born in Alaska, and she lived in Minnesota for several years, so she enjoys snow.
What's that Scandinavian word that means cozy and curled up by the fireplace with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate?
Apparently the West End production of our show will be streaming in June, so we'll have an opportunity to see a stage version.
Sorry...there aren't any ogres in this show, but there are trolls.
It was sad this year when we lost performances due to weather, but the cold never bothered us anyway.
You should have figured it out by now. Apologies to those who thought it was going to be a different show...just Let It Go...
Interested in summer theater opportunities? Here are some summer programs that Nitschmann students have enjoyed over the years:
Camp Hope Musical Theater Camp: https://www.camphope.org
(This is the sleep-away church camp program in New Jersey that Mrs. H directs. Next summer's show will be Godspell Jr.!)

The Music Makers: https://themusikmakers.org/
(Tell Miss Rebecca you're from Nitschmann! She knows Ryan, our travel agent from the band and the orchestra/jazz trip.)
Star of the Day: https://www.staroftheday.org/summer-camp-options.html
(Tell them you're from Nitschmann!)

(Tell them you're from Nitschmann! They were in our production of High School Musical way back in 2008.)
PYT: https://123pyt.org/school-of-performing-arts/summerstage/
(Go see our Nitschmann students in their shows!)
Pennsylvania Playhouse: http://www.paplayhouse.org/junior-players
(We had a Nitschmann student do this program back in 2016-ish)
Parent Volunteers:
All volunteers must have clearance paperwork on file with Mrs. Decker in the Student Services Office.
Click here for the volunteer paperwork packet: https://www.basdschools.org/volunteering
If your paperwork was on file in your elementary school, please call that school office to have it sent up to Nitschmann. Forms are not automatically sent over the summer.
Ginger Root Tea: for a Singer’s sore throat (this is the recipe that Broadway singers use!)
You need: fresh ginger root, lemon, honey, water, vegetable peeler, sharp knife, small cook pot, spoon, mug
How to make it: Use the vegetable peeler to peel the skin off the ginger root. Then use a sharp knife to cut the giger root into small pieces (about the size of a soda bottle cap). Put the pieces into the cook pot and add water. (The more water you add, the more tea you will have.) Bring to a boil on the stove and let it boil for a few minutes. (The longer it boils, the stronger your tea will be.) Then turn off the heat and let it cool down a little so you don’t burn your tongue!
