Pollution Solution PBL

In March and April our studies focused on answering this PBL driving question: How can we as citizens, create public awareness of pollution in our community so we can work together with our government to decrease pollution? Students learned about pollution, the effects of humans on the environment, the levels and branches of government, services provided through the taxes that we pay, and the role of each level and branch of government. Additionally, groups of students studied specific types of pollution. Below are some of the Public Service Announcements our students made during the unit to teach others about the effects of pollution and how to take care of the environment.

European Explorers Unit

In Social Studies in third grade we study European exploration in North America. After learning a little about John Cabot, Vasco Núñez de Balboa, Henry Hudson, and Jacques Cartier, students picked one of the explorers to study in depth and present to their class. Students studied the accomplishments of these explorers and the obstacles they faced. Here are their finished projects:

American Indians Unit

n Social Studies in third grade our first unit is a study of American Indians, the regions where they lived, and the effect of the environment on their way of life. Students picked a region to study in depth and created a museum display to share information about the region.
