Basic Construction II & Advanced Basic Construction are designed to give students skills in woodworking, as well as instill a passion in them for working with their hands. There are few things more amazing than seeing the process of a raw piece of wood become a work of art.
While I do not consider myself a master woodworker, I have friends who are, and have had the opportunity to work with others who are. One of my main goals in this class is that students develop a passion for working with their hands to create something useful and beautiful . And while I love working with my hands, I am also intrigued with integrating technology into woodworking with the use of our CNC router.
While I've created many things over the years that I've been proud of, the chair below is my woodworking pride and joy. Several years ago PCC brought in Andy Chidwick, and professional woodworker who teaches 'woodworking vacation' classes in Montana, to teach a chair making class to a group of shop teachers from our area. This chair is the result of a 6-day class, plus another 30 - 40 hours of work after the class.
