Welcome students!
Below you will find information about each of my Spring 2026 courses. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I look forward to having each of you in class.
Spring 2026 Courses
Make sure you check your ACC email on a regular basis. You can set it up to forward to a different account if you wish, but you need to be receiving emails sent to your ACC account or you will miss crucial information from ACC and your instructors.
MATH 1342 - Elementary Statistics (all sections)
I love teaching Statistics! Statistics is an exciting course that many students find immediately relevant to daily life in addition to their chosen major and career path. Data drives decisions in every avenue of our lives: business, government, health sciences, consumer choices - on and on. The course can seem daunting at first, mostly because it is unlike previous math courses students have taken. Statistics is an applied math course, which means everything we do is done in context. You might have been able to skim your math book in algebra and rely on memorizing examples from the teacher. That doesn't work in Statistics. You will have to read study descriptions and find key components; you will have to read your textbook (no worries, it's more readable than many math books); and you will have to write about your findings using complete sentences. We will also be learning how to use web-based statistical software to save us time on graphing and calculations - you'll love it. I am so excited to have you this semester!
ACC usually makes Blackboard courses available to students the week before each semester. Here is some general information about course materials: Stat Materials
Section-specific information
Statistics with Support, MATH 1342 + NCBM 0142: Asynchronous (ONL) sections
Asynchronous means there are no virtual class meetings. Students who succeed in the asynchronous format are good at time management and self-motivation, scheduling times throughout each week to learn material and complete assignments. Learning asynchronously offers more flexibility with your time but often takes more time each week than a synchronous course. If you do better with more imposed structure and can accommodate a virtual class meeting twice a week, consider looking for a DLS section pairing.
Asynchronous learning can seem like you are learning alone, but not in my course! My ONL courses foster an interactive community of learners. You will find a safe space to ask your questions and a caring instructor who is happy to help. (That's me!)
Students in this course are usually just under the cutoff score for MATH 1342 or qualify for MATH 1342 but are choosing this course pairing for a bit of extra support. You will be required to register for both sections for the entire semester, and there is a grade assigned separately for each. This course experience will include all assignments and support materials from my stand-alone MATH 1342, as well as:
1. Additional review of math you need for the course (Percents? We'll go over those! Using complicated formulas? Step-by-step help and calculator tips, no worries!)
2. Extra practice (Let's try a few more of those with detailed solutions provided!), and
3. Study Skills and Concept Connections (What should you put on your note sheet for the exam? Let's brainstorm about that!)
There will be an online orientation due the first week. There are 4-5 proctored exams that will be available for about one week each throughout the semester. All information will also be posted in Blackboard.

Statistics Express (MATH 1342 + MATD 0342): Campus sections
Campus sections have set class meeting times two days per week. Campus sections meet in person on an ACC campus.
I am very excited to be teaching this co-enrollment option with my colleague, Professor Sutton! This is for students who place into developmental math and have MATH 1342 as your college-level math requirement. You will be required to register for both sections for the entire semester, and there is a grade assigned separately for each. Though you are registering for two sections, this course is taught in one classroom with both instructors present for the whole time.
With extra time in class we are able to slow down in tricky places and review any prerequisite math that you might be rusty on. This is a fun, collaborative, learning environment where you will get to know your instructors and classmates - which research shows is a great way to be successful in math. We will help each other and keep each other accountable. It is a great choice for students who are dedicated to completing their developmental and college-level math requirements in one semester, and are motivated to move forward with their college/career goals. We are dedicated and motivated as well - let's get you through math and on your way!
