Dr. Selim has 30 years experience within the fields of microeconomics, business economics, game theory, markets and competition, industrial development, technology and innovation, sectoral strategies, financial valuation, risk assessment, and cost-benefit analysis of investments and development projects.

Dr. Selim is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Economics in the School of Business at the American University in Cairo. He serves on the global expert council of the World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland. He has been visiting research professor at MIT, and faculty affiliate to the Microeconomics of Competitiveness Network at Harvard Business School. He is founding member of the Alfred P. Sloan Industry Studies Association, research fellow of the Economic Research Forum (ERF) in the Middle East, and has been senior economic advisor to the Egyptian Competition Authority. His consulting and research work has covered many industries including steel, cement, automotive, natural gas, petroleum, food processing, carpets, pharmaceuticals, gold, marble and granite, tourism, solar energy, telecom, and nuclear power generation.
