ALLY ANDERSON JOINS THE TROJAN SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME

Over her five seasons, Ally’s dominance in the circle and at the plate rewrote the Trojan Softball record books. Her 923 strike outs rank her second, third, fourth, tenth and fifteenth in all-time single season strikeouts, while issuing just 100 walks in over 4,000 batters faced. She ranks among the top five in ERA, recording a phenomenal 1.13 ERA in 2018. At the plate, she ranks in the top ten all-time in batting average and home runs with an eye-popping career batting average of .396, 14 home runs and 159 RBIs.

Her on-field accolades are numerous. Her 27 wins in 2017 powered the team to a program-record 33 wins. Perhaps most memorably, she pitched the Trojans to a 6-3 victory over Estherville LC, securing the first State Tournament win in program history. Ally was awarded First Team unanimous Hawkeye Ten All-Conference three times and Second Team All-Conference once. She earned 3A West All-District honors three times, Second Team All-State once and First Team All-State two times.

After graduating from Atlantic High School in 2018, Ally took her talents to DMACC. There, she continued to pitch at a national level, helping lead the Bears to an incredible NJCAA Division II World Series run. Today, Ally lives in Bridgewater and works at Ultra Ova in Adair.

CHRIS SCHRODER RECOGNIZED FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO TROJAN SOFTBALL

The Trojan Softball Family shined the spotlight on someone who doesn't wear a uniform, but is absolutely crucial to the team's success as they recognize Chris Schorder.

Fans watching games at the Trojan Softball stadium have undoubtedly noticed Chris as part of the parent grounds crew, preparing the field before every varsity home game. He puts in countless hours behind the scenes, keeping the entire softball facility beautiful and a pleasure to play on and visit.

Chris is known for dropping everything to do whatever is needed for the softball program. He is always the first to show up whenever and wherever assistance is need. Whether that means late-night preparation at the Little League Complex for the Trojan Invitational, or working on this facility hours after the game has ended and everyone has gone home—Chris is there.

Trojan Softball expresses the deepest appreciation for his valuable contributions, longstanding dedication, endless enthusiasm and making the facilities a truly beautiful place to play and watch softball.

TROJANS HOST LITTLE LEAGUE APPRECIATION NIGHT

The Atlantic High School and the Trojan Softball Program recognized the board of directors, volunteers, coaches, and over 75 softball players who make up the Atlantic Little League Softball Program.

Atlantic Little League Board of Directors include Lucas Mosier, Lindsey Benning, Tony Pross, Adam Sonntag, Tony Burg, Stacy Johnson, Macie Harringa, Liz Johnson, Paul Kite, Jeff Gude and Mackenzie Bandow. These board members and the many volunteers make Little League a success in the Atlantic community and have a huge impact on the nearly 250 boys and girls who participant.

2016 Atlantic Trojans Softball: The Road to Fort Dodge

In 2016, the Atlantic High School Trojan softball team compiled a stellar 27-16 overall record (13-7 in the conference), finishing third in the Hawkeye Ten Conference behind Creston and Lewis Central. The road to the state tournament in Fort Dodge was a grueling Hawkeye Ten affair. It began with a regional home game against the Red Oak Tigers. The Trojans jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, winning 11-0 in five innings. The second-round regional game was another home matchup, this time against the Mustangs of Shenandoah. Although the Trojans had 10-run ruled the Mustangs twice earlier in the season, this game was an absolute nail-biter. After trailing 2-1 in the 4th, the Trojans tied it in the bottom of the 7th on a Baylee Newell run, driven in by a Catherine Leonard double. The game wasn't decided until the bottom of the 9th, when with two outs, Belicia Smith beat out an infield grounder, allowing Brooke Newell to score the walk-off winning run. The Regional Final took place at City Field in Carroll against a strong Kuemper Catholic team that finished just a spot behind the Trojans in the conference. After trading early runs, Atlantic—the home team via a coin flip—rallied in the bottom of the 6th. Reagan Pellett laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Makenzie Waters to second, but a wild throw to first allowed Waters to move to third, where she would eventually score the winning run after Gabby Jordahl grounded to the hole at short, breaking the tie and propelling the Trojans to the state tournament!

After torrential rains washed out the first-round games at Fort Dodge, the 2016 Trojans made history as the first team ever representing Atlantic to step onto the State Tournament field. The Trojans opened against top-ranked Davenport Assumption and, while they fell short in an 11-3 final, they rallied for three runs in the sixth inning, sparked by base hits from Karsyn Rush and Erin Olsen to avoid ending the game early. The next day, Atlantic faced a tough CMB squad in the consolation bracket. CMB plated three runs in the second to hand the Trojans a hard-fought 3-0 defeat.

But the Trojan squad saved their best for last. The historic 2016 season was closed out by defeating the Estherville LC Midgets 6-3, a victory highlighted by a dominant nine-strikeout performance by pitcher Ally Anderson. The unforgettable season was capped off with a seventh-place finish at State and a final ranking of 15th in Class 3A.

Steve loved the game of softball, seldom missed a Trojan home game (always from his spot on the hill) and especially watching his granddaughter Riley play.

ATLANTIC VETERANS COLOR GUARD PRESENTS FLAG AT ALL HOME SOFTBALL GAMES

If you have attended a home softball game this seasons, you could not help but notice that the flag prior to the National Anthem was presented at home plate by the Atlantic Veterans Color Guard. The Atlantic Veterans Color Guard is comprised of veterans from the local VFW, AMVETS, American Legion and other veteran organizations.

Trojan Softball adds Middle School Teams

The Trojan Softball program expanded this past season with the addition of sixth and seventh grade, Middle School softball teams. Coach Hinzmann noted that "the addition of Middle School softball will allow the girls to receive excellent coaching on a regular basis, play competitive games and all while being directly introduced to the terminology, strategy and skills used in the higher levels of Trojan Softball". Hinzmann also thanked the support the Middle School teams received from the Atlantic Little League organization, "we certainly could not have had a successful program without their help and assistance".
