TROJANS BID FOR A FOUTH TRIP TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT DERAILED WITH 3-2 REGIONAL FINAL LOSS TO DAVIS COUNTY

This was a day where there was so much anticipation and positive energy coming from the Atlantic dugout. This team was confident and definitely believed they were going to go to Fort Dodge.

They gave themselves a shot, Ava Rush led off with a double to left, before Lila Wiederstein blasted a two-run homer over the left field fence to establish the 2-0 lead.

Instead there was disappointment, tears and heartbreak for the team.  But also the reflection and pride in knowing they represented the school and community well, and made the fans who made the nearly 200-mile trek across southern Iowa, a trip that was well worth it.  The game too marked the end of the high school athletic careers for three seniors; Mattie Dvorak, Madison Huddleson and Ava Rush

TROJAN DAY TRIP TO REGIONAL FINAL GAME vs DAVIS COUNTY IN BLOOMFIELD

The Trojan Softball Team stopped off at Smash Park in Pella to break up the three and a half hour journey to the Regional Final game in Bloomfield.  After some lunch and games like bags, six-person foosball, Jenga, pickel ball, etc. it was back into the Suburbans and on to the game.  Thanks so much to expert and patient staff of Smash Park Pella.

Trojan Softball adds Middle School Teams

The Trojan Softball program expanded this past season with the addition of sixth and seventh grade, Middle School softball teams.  Coach Hinzmann noted that "the addition of Middle School softball will allow the girls to receive excellent coaching on a regular basis, play competitive games and all while being directly introduced to the terminology, strategy and skills used in the higher levels of Trojan Softball".  Hinzmann also thanked the support the Middle School teams received from the Atlantic Little League organization, "we certainly could not have had a successful program without their help and assistance".

Kevin and Gena Rush recognized for volunteer work and support of the Trojan Softball Program

Since joining the Trojan Softball family in 2015, Kevin and Gina Rush have played an integral part in making the softball experience for every player, regardless of skill or level, a positive and memorable one.  Whether it’s keeping the scorebook, providing rides for players to and from practices or games, making sure every player has proper equipment, including a new uniform and pants minus the rips or holes, to even opening their home for players in the absence of their own parents, Kevin and Gina have always been there to assist the team.

On behalf of the entire Trojan Softball program, we would like to express our appreciation for all your valuable contributions. We are grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication you bring to our players.  You make everyone’s mission that much smoother and our teams that much more successful.

MISSY WORTH-GOERGEN JOINS TROJAN SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME

Missy was a starting varsity softball player and letter winner from 1986 to 199.  During her career she become the team leader in several categories including batting average, hits, RBIs, stolen bases, triples, on-base percentage and extra base hits.  As a sophomore third basemen Missy won Second Team All-Conference and Second Team All-District accolades.  The following year as a junior she was selected to the Frist Team All-Conference, First Team All-District and Honorable Mention All-State, in an era when state awards included no specific class designation.  A switch to the outfield her senior season had little bearing on Missy’s softball success.  She recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage at her new position on the way to winning honors as unanimous First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Southwest Iowa, First Team All-District, Elite Special Mention All-Stat, and only one of three outfielders to receive All-State Fourth Team, again including all Iowa softball classes.

Missy graduated from Atlantic High School in 1990 where she was also a standout athlete in cross country, basketball, and track.  Missy is presently the Lead Instructional Coach at Washington Elementary School right here in Atlantic.
