Tucker L. Smith is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree with a concentration in Music Education. He is in his seventh year teaching at Asheboro High School in Asheboro, North Carolina as the Director of Bands and was named the 2019-20 "Apple of Excellence" award winner for the outstanding first year teacher in the Asheboro City Schools district. With a strong 140 member program Mr. Smith primary instructor for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the Comet Blues Jazz Ensemble. Over the past 6 years, Mr. Smith has led these ensemble to success with "Superior" ratings at NCMEA's Music Performance Adjudication. In 2023 and 2024, the Comet Blues Jazz has earned "Most Outstanding Ensemble" of the day at UNC Charlotte's Jazz Festival. During his tenure at UNC Charlotte, Mr. Smith was very involved with the Music Department. As a saxophone player, Mr. Smith participated in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Saxophone Quartet holding principal seats in all ensembles. On the field, Tucker has served in the role of Head Drum Major, Assistant Drum Major, and Section Leader for UNC Charlotte’s “Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band”. He also led the PNNMB in Normandy, France in June, 2018 for the 74th annual D-Day Commemoration Ceremonies. Primary teachers include: William Campbell, Evelyn Orman, Jennifer Whitaker, Shawn Smith, Fred Spano, Chesley Black IV, James Grymes, and Philip Homiller.
Mr. Smith’s professional affiliations include: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, NCMEA, National Association for Music Education, and Central District’s Bandmasters Association.
