FALL
Prepare to take your final SAT and/ACT. Take these tests as soon as possible as deadlines for applications and scholarships may come sooner than you expect
Narrow down your list of colleges to the schools you’re most interested in (make sure those schools offer the degree you are interested in!)
Start your admission and scholarship applications. Many colleges have early deadlines for their scholarships
Some applications may require a letter of recommendation—make sure you give your letter writer at least two weeks notice
Know which colleges require admission essays—make sure you have a teacher or counselor proofread
Send transcripts and test scores
Financial Aid: The FAFSA can be filled out online beginning October 1st (this is awesome!) It means you will find out sooner what types of aid you qualify for
Winter
Follow up with the colleges you have applied to (have you requested final transcripts and test scores to be sent?)
Send any additional information for admission or financial aid
Keep searching and applying for scholarships
Spring
Compare financial aid packages from each college—make sure you understand what your total cost will be (tuition, books, fees, room, board, and housing)
Once you have made your final choice, notify the school and follow up with housing and meal plans
Accept your financial aid
Make plans to attend orientation
Keep searching and applying for scholarships!
