Philosophy: “True learning is not a passive endeavor and requires one to do more than simply absorb information; you must think critically about that information, question it at every opportunity, apply it in meaningful ways to your world, and thereby make it your own.”
~ Michael W. Bruce
What brought me to education as a career? What keeps me here?
Several things led me to a career in education: 1) My love of the subjects that I teach and the desire to spark that same love in others 2) My desire to work with young adults and help them through the trials of their teenage years, as many wonderful teachers helped me through my teenage years. 3) As a former Slater myself, my desire to give back to the school and community that gave so much to me. 4) The love of learning and especially history that was instilled in me through several special teachers and most importantly my grandmother, who was also a teacher. What keeps me here is my desire to continue improving and honing my craft (I haven't perfected it yet; I know I can do better!) and continue building rewarding relationships with each group of new students that enter my classroom (the relationships I have built with students over the years are THE most rewarding aspect of my job) .
