Advertising and Media

This page will guide us through our exploration of Advertising and Media.

Look below for the resources we need to see what kinds of Advertising is out there, aimed at kids, and how YOU can recognize what is real and what is just the magic of advertising.

1) Where? Where do Ads show up?

2) Click HERE to see some examples of Advertisements and try to figure out what gimmicks they are using to convince you to buy stuff!

3) Click Here to add to a Padlet to figure out what the different types are.

5) Look at how advertisers make things look better with Photoshop! or with other tricks without Photoshop.

6) Play the Adversmarts Game (if you have time).

7) Slogans and Logos: Lots of brands use logos and slogans to imprint their identity on your brain. Here are a few that should be familiar.

8) Make an Advertisement: Your class will make an ad about a commodity, or a PSA.

Use one of the following choices:

  • Use Powtoon to make it a cartoon-- Before you click here, you must have a script written and storyboard thought out.
  • Or make a Poster with Canva!
  • Or make a website for your ad on Sites!

Want to make your ad another way? Let me know!

By the end of this Unit, students will understand:

    • Advertisers and marketers use different appeals to get you to buy stuff
    • Advertising can be deceiving (photoshopping, food fluffing)
    • Advertising is not always obvious--product placements, instagrams, games and activities
    • Advertising isn’t just on TV or magazines--Product websites are there to get you become loyal to the product and get your information with logins
