Welcome

Welcome!

Many students have asked, "Why do I have to take GE courses? I'm at college because I want to study my major!" While major courses are exceptionally important for getting a job, your GE courses can help you stay in the job and get promoted once you are there. Acccording to Emily Griffen, director of the Loeb Center for Career Exploration and Planning at Amherst College in Massachusetts, "A liberal arts degree is the most pragmatic degree one can pursue in a world with increasing uncertainty and volatility.... It is designed to equip you with the adaptability that will be critical to navigating many decades of professional life in rapidly evolving landscapes. It is more worth it than ever." *

Additionally, according to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, students who study at liberal arts institutions like APU have a significantly higher return on investment than those at other schools. What does that mean for you? It means that your GE program, combined with your major, is likely to generate higher income for you after you graduate from APU than if you attended a trade or other specialized school.^

In short, General Education programs serve to make you a more creative critical thinker who can utilize the skills, ideas and knowledge of various disciplines in your own area of interest, which in turn make you more valuable to future employers. This, combined with the intentional Christ-centered focus of "God First" that APU instills into GE, makes our program one of the best out there.
