We are fortunate that this year Elmwood is once again able to host a COSI on Wheels event for the First and Second Grade Classes! This year's program is "The Incredible Human Machine!" The children will learn what it takes to keep their body energized and in tip top shape. They will also explore the digestive, nervous and circulatory systems. They will learn about nutrients and how exercise keeps a body healthy! The students will have a great time completing hands-on activities with COSI materials and lessons. These students will be directed at each center by coached parent volunteers. This program will take place on April 12, 2019. If you would like to volunteer to help that day, please drop the office a note or myself stating your wishes. We will get back with you. Don't forget to tell us your number and your child's name.

If you make it over to our Elmwood school please check out our outdoor learning areas. Our"ABC Garden" is out front! It was done by Girl Scout Troop 20119 and they did a terrific job! It is perfect for our Kindergarten students. They will be learning about plants, their needs, textures, helping weed and water, and maintaining a garden. Great job and Thank You, Troop 20119!

The first graders will be learning about seeds, planting, plant needs, sprouting, and keeping track of their plant's growth. They will be using the new raised vegetable garden beds on the south side of the school to help with these concepts. Last year, we harvested lettuce, spinach and radishes.

The second graders have started a butterfly garden in the back of school. This will used for reading, writing, and research in the classroom. This garden will also tie in with Science concepts; life cycles, reasearch, charting and raising their own butterflies.

Last, but not least, be sure to leave enough time to walk through our trail behind the school. The second graders have been working on a new foot trail for our woods. All the children have walked through the woods and loved it! We then brought what we observed in the woods, back into our classrooms; by predicting, observing, researching, illustrating and then writing about our visit through our woods. We hope to do this several times this year!
