• Facilitating access to ideas and information.

• Collaborating in the teaching of information literacy and technology skills.

• Encouraging reading and the use of information skills to promote literacy and lifelong learning.

Student Achievement -- Four ways a School Library Media Program increases student achievement:

Collaboration:

Includes a Library Media Specialist who plans and teams with teachers and grade levels for resource-based instruction.

Reading Literacy:

Creates access to an exciting array of print and digital materials for students and staff

Enhanced Learning through Technology:

Provides in-service training of teachers and students that demonstrates and encourages methods to exploit technology to enhance teaching strategies, learning content, and the production of projects.

Information Literacy:

Integrates information literacy skills (the ability to find, use and communicate information) into units as appropriate. Provides research strategies at the time of need.

Curriculum

Roseville Area Schools media/technology curriculum is organized around 3 Enduring Understandings:

1. Information literacy is a framework for a lifetime of learning.

2. Intellectual work has value and its use requires appropriate acknowledgement.

3. Technology and information tools can enhance our work and communication.
