Domain Name Migration from "edina.k12.mn.us" to "edinaschools.org"

THIS WORK WAS COMPLETE IN SUMMER 2013

It may no longer apply to current systems.

In an effort to make email addresses easier to access and remember, the district will be making a change this summer to staff email account naming conventions and domain names.

    • The new addresses, will be in the form: FirstName.LastName@edinaschools.org.

      • First names will use what is currently used in the HR system, no nicknames will be applied (e.g. James.Smith vs Jim.Smith).

      • For staff that have the same first name and last name, the following naming convention will be used.

        • FirstName.MI.Lastname or Firstame.LastName.incremental number@edinaschools.org

    • Similarly, the district website is also available at www.edinaschools.org. The same goes for individual schools sites - e.g. normandale.edinaschools.org.

What changes will I see?

  • Users will notice that their email address will change to firstname.lastname@edinaschools.org Again the old address will still work.

  • The domain name, the suffix for all of our internet addesses and web pages will change from @edina.k12.mn.us to @edinaschools.org. Please keep in mind that the old addresses will still work

  • Outlook will continue to work except Outlook Web Access(OWA) will have a new url or address which is https://owa.edinaschools.org

  • Mobile phone users will need to setup a new connection to mail, contacts and calendar.

How do I connect from my computer at home?

  • Using any modern web-browser (like Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer) go to: https://owa.edinaschools.org

  • Login using your same computer username and password.

  • Helpful resources for the new web mail can be found Edina Webmail setup.

  • To sign out click the "Sign Out" button in the top right.

How do I connect my Mobile Device?

  • Personal Mobile devices are not supported by DMTS. DMTS provides instructions, but not help with problems connecting with personal mobile devices.

  • Use the Microsoft Outlook App for Android and iOS

Will the username and password I use to log into computers change?

No

Will my TIES login change?

No

Will my old email still work?

Yes, your current email address “username@edina.k12.mn.us” will continue to work through the fall. Accounts that you have created using this email address will continue to work giving you time to transition them over to the new email address “firstname.lastname@edinaschools.org

Can Parents/Students/Community still email me with my old address?

Parents and students can continue to reach you at “username@edina.k12.mn.us” but when you reply, the reply-to address for them will be “firstname.lastname@edinaschools.org

Will staff get new business cards with the address changes?

We will not be ordering all new business cards at this time because the old address will continue to work. As new orders are placed, the new email address and website address will be printed.

My current email and name are misspelled or incorrect, will that be fixed?

Yes, please submit any corrections to your name or spelling to HR. You may need supervisor approval to make this change. The new email addresses will be created from your record in HR.

My middle name is in my current email, can I get that removed?

Maybe. First be sure that the record in HR is accurate. Please let Help Desk know of corrections.

How will duplicates be addressed?

Users who have the same first name and last name as another staff member will get a number appended to the end of their last name. Please let Help Desk know of corrections.

Will my Mobile device still work?

Yes, but with the change in email domain name, you may need to remove and re-configure the settings on your device. This includes Android phones, Windows Mobile phones, iPhones, iPads and other devices that use the ActiveSync protocol to connect to our work email account.

Will Outlook Web Access still work (Webmail)?

Yes, the Outlook Web Access service (webmail) will still work. The former site https://owa.edina.k12.mn.us will redirect you to the new login page automatically. https://owa.edinaschools.org The Staff page on our main website will always be current.
